Here, Hello People Solutions Director Amanda Bayliss brings you a round-up of all the latest HR news.

Wow, can you believe we are in June already! The year 2020 will be a year that we won’t forget in a hurry.  Here at the Hello People Solutions HQ, we have looked back over the last few months with gratitude; not only have we learned what furlough means, we have adapted to the challenges home schooling brings and we have just had the hottest spring on record!

Here are some of the key HR issues this month.

Although we can’t actually go ‘on holiday’, businesses are heading into the holiday season. You may have people cancelling holiday because they are furloughed, or it may be not practical to take the holiday. The Working Time (Coronavirus) (Amendment) Regulations 2020 came in on 27 March 2020 and allows the four week of annual leave to be carried over for two holiday years. Click here for our FAQs

Flexible Furlough

Since the start of May the number of furloughed employees has risen by a quarter to reach 8.4 million, according to Treasury figures. On 29 May 2020, the Chancellor announced changes to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, giving Employers more flexibility. Click here for more information.

Remote working becomes the new norm

Immigration System

Brexit may be a distant memory as the UK officially left the EU on 31 January 2020 and since then we have been in a transition period, due to end on 31 December 2020. The Government has put forward plans for a new immigration system, which is due to come into force in January 2021, This system will have a significant impact on the recruitment of skilled and non-skill workers from all countries outside the UK.
