Anshu Mehan FCA CTA TEP

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2024, we’ve taken over Anshu’s profile to ask her about the challenges she has faced being a woman in a male-dominated profession and for any advice she would give to women looking to succeed in the accounting industry.

“I’m a director at HSKSG, who have been part of the Dains group since September 2023. I qualified as a chartered accountant with the ICAI in 1993, followed by membership of the ICAEW in 1996 after my move from India to the UK. I’m a qualified Chartered Tax Adviser and as a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, I’m the only person within the Dains group qualified to do regulated probate work.

“In my career of nearly 37 years, I’ve had great mentors who pushed me to be where I am today, but also faced reluctance from both peers and clients who thought I was different.  It took me a good few years to convince them that the difference is all for good. I understood the industry better, I understood the tax better, and I understood their business better. I could put the whole bundle together to help them grow their business.

“From my personal experience I would suggest women should have the courage to recognise they’re equally equipped to take up challenges and make positive contributions. We’re equal, if not better, and we should never shy away from challenges or obstacles. Success in life is based on intelligence, determination and hard work and not on gender, race or colour!”
