11th May 2017

A member of the HSKS Greenhalgh Taxation Services team has become the National President of the networking and charitable organisation Round Table.

Tax Manager Steven Grew is a member of the Derby Merlin Round Table. He has served on the organisation’s National Association Board for the past five years, spending three years as National Treasurer and the last 12 months as National Vice-President. He took up the role of National President at the Round Table AGM on Saturday 6 May in Stratford-Upon-Avon and at 38 is the youngest President for 10 years.

Through his involvement with The Round Table, Steven has travelled all over the country, including recent trips to Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides and Fishguard in South Wales, promoting the Round Table and the good causes that it supports. He has also travelled overseas, including a visit to Nepal last year for the organisation’s international AGM.

As Steven explains, becoming a member of the Round Table has been a life changing experience for him and he is excited about his new role as National President.

Says Steven, “I first attended a Round Table meeting in 2002 with a friend whose father was a member, as a way of meeting new people and making contacts locally. Little did I know that over the next 15 years it would provide me with the opportunity to make hundreds of new friends, both in the UK and overseas, with whom I have shared some amazing experiences, as well as raised funds for numerous charities.

“Becoming President of the National Association is a huge honour and one that I am very excited about. There are already lots of events planned for the next 12 months and I am particularly looking forward to representing the National Association at events in Estonia and Romania. No doubt a personal highlight will be the honour of laying a wreath at the Cenotaph at the National Service of Remembrance on behalf of the Round Table. “It goes without saying that my involvement with the Round Table takes up a lot of my time and it has been made so much easier with the support provided by HSKS Greenhalgh and I look forward to their continued support during my year as President”.

The Round Table is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary and has 30,000 members worldwide, with active members in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the USA. As well as social and networking opportunities, the Round Table also raises millions of pounds for charity each year, including funds for the Round Table Children’s Wish, which grants wishes for children with life threatening illnesses and the Round Table Trust who offer travel grants to young people from Britain and Ireland who volunteer for community service projects overseas. They also have close links to Children in Need and the blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan, as well as supporting local charities up and down the country.
